Number Five Cafe sits quietly on Kirk Road in Templeton, a practical stop for locals and visitors who want a straightforward café experience without fuss. This is clearly a place where people drop in regularly—whether for their weekday morning latte or a weekend treat like one of the cheese scones that seem to have earned a loyal following.

The café’s vibe leans modern and clean, with functional touches like a glass fence and lino flooring that keep things simple but a little too polished for those looking for a cozy, rustic atmosphere. Some might notice it lacks the cluttered charm of older cafés, but the outdoor patio adds a pleasant element for warmer days, especially with umbrellas for shade. It’s an inviting spot to sit outside when the sun is out, soaking up a quiet suburban street scene.

Service here is friendly and professional, often remarked on by regulars and first-timers alike. The ownership’s approachable manner seems to add a genuine local welcome to the experience. The kitchen turns out substantial breakfasts that feel more generous than typical café portions, including well-executed basics like poached eggs and standout items like Korean fried chicken if you’re feeling adventurous.

The drink menu includes well-prepared coffee staples alongside a strong recommendation for the English Breakfast Tea for two, which fits well with the overall unpretentious offering. Best times to visit are morning through early afternoon, when you can settle in for a hearty start or a midday coffee break. The crowd is mostly local residents, regulars who appreciate consistency and friendly faces over novelty.

While not the spot for those seeking a lush, plant-filled sanctuary or a highly stylized café vibe, Number Five Cafe delivers on straightforward food and drink, good outdoor seating, and a welcoming environment that suits everyday meet-ups and relaxed mornings.

We just about live here it's our local Cafe but also our favourite. Can't go a week without cheese scones, lattes and something sweet. The new owners are super lovely and we always feel welcome!

We found this cafe by chance on our way out of Christchurch. The breakfasts were amazing - freshly cooked, generous portions and delicious. The poached eggs were perfect too. The staff were super friendly too. Would definitely recommend.

Good coffee friendly staff, very modern cafe. Lacks charm and homeliness. More pictures and indoor plants would greatly enhance the place, but the lino floor and the glass fence are redeeming features. The umbrellas outside also help to add to atmosphere. Staff should make sure they are opened on warmer days.

Maybe the best breakfast I’ve ever had. Korean fried chicken was excellent too. Big portions, fast service, and the patio is nice in the summer.

Visited today for a cup of coffee and foods. Very busy but staff served me kindly. Many choice of foods and coffee was hot. This little cafe is managed as I always see the staff cleaning every corner of the cafe. Recommended.

Most Saturdays, my wife and I will have breakfast here. We spend some time here, and it's very precious to us as we can talk on many topics without interruption. The surroundings are very peaceful.
